 Who is Banzpay?

Banzpay is a full service banking and payments technology provider to financial institutions throughout New Zealand and across the Pacific Islands. As a “mature” fintech – we have many years of experience and in-depth understanding in the banking and payment space.  We are constantly looking for and implementing new ways to innovate and disrupt for the advantage of our customers. Banzpay is not a registered bank.

Formed in 1961 as the New Zealand Credit Union League and from our origins in the credit union sector, today we trade as Banzpay and have grown to provide critical business services to a number of financial institutions operating throughout New Zealand and across the Pacific Islands.


We work closely with our valued customers to provide access to high quality banking and payments products and services through leveraging scale economies, bilateral connections, and high quality business partners, while maintaining a high degree of system robustness and security.


With over 30 years’ experience in financial IT and operational support services, we are well equipped to help financial institutions.

Executive Team

Jonathan Lee
Chief Executive Officer

Jonathan was appointed to the Banzpay Executive team in February 2011 as Chief Operating Officer, and in July 2018 was appointed Chief Executive Officer.

Prior to joining Banzpay, Jonathan held senior roles in New Zealand and overseas. Jonathan is a former Chartered Accountant, holds a Bachelor of Business Studies from Massey University, a Master of Business Administration from Henley Management College in the UK, and is a member of the Institute of Directors.

Jonathan lives in Auckland and his interests include tennis, travel and spending time with family.



Tony Rae
Chief Financial Officer

Tony was appointed as Banzpay’s Chief Financial Officer in June 2022. In this role, Tony provides strategic leadership for Banzpay’s finance, commercial, and banking operations functions.

Tony has more than 20 years of experience in the financial services sector. After starting his career at KPMG, working for companies such as Sumitomo Mitsui Banking, Barclays, and more recently as an executive in the funds management and wealth sector. 

Tony is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Otago, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Canterbury where he was awarded the Canterbury Employers' Chamber of Commerce MBA Prize in Business Strategy and Policy.

Tony lives in Auckland, and his interests include surfing, fishing, travel, and spending time with family.




Toby Koller
Chief Security and Infrastructure Officer

Toby has been with Banzpay since 2015 and joined the Banzpay Executive in June 2020. Prior to Banzpay, Toby worked in consultancy and management roles both in NZ and abroad. Toby holds a Master Degree in Environmental Science from FH Wiesbaden University of Applied Science.  Toby has a strong technical background in Systems Architecture, Security and Networks.

Toby lives in Auckland and his interests include traveling, mountaineering and he enjoys spending time with his family.


Niju James
Head of Cards and Payments

Niju has been with Banzpay since March 2019 and joined the Banzpay Executive in March 2023. He has a deep passion and understanding of payments switching systems and the industry as a whole, having worked for close to two decades for international payment applications companies designing, implementing and supporting Payments Systems on the ACI Worldwide payments applications suite for international banks, retailers, credit unions, card schemes and petrochemical companies. 

Niju’s role oversees Banzpay’s Payments application product set, systems and architecture used for our Acquiring and Issuing customers throughout New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.

Niju lives in Auckland, and is a massive car enthusiast, loves mountain biking, going on hikes and spending time with his family.





Mark Gabriel
Head of Programme Management

Mark has been with Banzpay since October 2021 and joined the Banzpay Executive in September 2022.   Mark has over 30 years of experience providing and supporting software solutions across the globe for a diverse range of industries, particularly Fuel Card and Gift Card solutions.   

Mark’s role oversees the framework, governance and execution of programme and project delivery for Banzpay and its customers.

Mark lives in Auckland and is an avid motorsports fan, enjoys the beach, kite flying, music and spending time with family.

Sean Morrison

Director


Sean has over 20 years’ experience in payments, banking and loyalty.

He is currently a senior commercial manager at Booster Financial Services and responsible for the end-to-end design and delivery of customer propositions.

Sean has held senior product, partnership, commercial and operations roles at ANZ Bank New Zealand and Air New Zealand.



Paul Foley
Director


Paul is senior corporate lawyer and company director with over 30 years’ experience working in the financial services, manufacturing and energy fields. He is currently a consultant with MinterEllisonRuddWatts, having been a partner there for more than 20 years. Paul is also the Executive Chair of Booster Financial Services Limited. He is a past director and chair of NZX and ASX listed companies and a Chartered Fellow of the NZ Institute of Directors. Paul has a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting, both from Victoria University



Allan Yeo
Alternate Director


Allan is the founder and Managing Director of Booster Financial Services, a Government appointed Default KiwiSaver provider and investment manager. Allan has over 30 years investment management, investment banking and risk management experience. Prior to establishing Booster, he held a number of senior banking roles with Barclays Bank PLC in New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom. Allan holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration (1st Class Honours) in Economics and Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics, both from Victoria University of Wellington. Allan’s overarching ambition is to make a meaningful difference to how New Zealanders live and work; providing the necessary tools to help people live within their means, protect and grow their financial resources.
